3 Days Family Trip in Rainy Boracay Island 2020

February 5 to 7, 2020 (Wednesday to Friday) in Aklan, Philippines

My 27th family outing initiated and of course, usual budget do-it-yourself itinerary from arrival to departure. This trip also served as my 4th tour-visit in the famous white beach in the world (Dec. 2011, Jun. 2013 and Jul. 2016). Please take note that advance hotel booking is necessary on this island. My Boracay 1st visit was via RORO from Batangas Port (Dec. 2011), 2nd visit was via flight to Roxas city (Jun. 2013), 3rd visit was via Go Ferry from Batangas Port (Jul. 2016) and 4th visit (Feb. 2020) just now was via flight to Kalibo. I never used the Caticlan airport yet due to overpriced tickets #boracay

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT BORACAY ISLAND
1. Boracay has been highly celebrated in the international media as one of the best islands and having one of the best beaches in the world.
2. White Beach (the most famous beach in Boracay – and one of top in the world), is a 4 kilometer span of uninterrupted white sugary sand that stretches along the western curve of the island, protected from most winds so the turquoise water is usually glassy calm
3. Boracay suffered from over-tourism and inherited a reputation for sleazy nightlife and major environmental concerns. The government closed the island for six months and the island underwent an extensive facelift. Since reopening in October 2018, there are new rules and regulations, and a limit to the number of tourists allowed on the island. You must have a hotel pre-booked before they will let you get on the boat to Boracay. There is no eating or drinking on the beach, no smoking, no fire dancing, and no commercial sandcastles.

Boracay Island Morning Beach Walking 2016

5 Days Solo DIY Trip to Best White Sand Beaches near Panay Island

The third island beach among the four I targeted on this Panay Island solo trip. In my honest opinion, Boracay Island is still the best white fine sand beach and top tourist destination of Aklan province. This served also as my 3rd visit following the family budget trip last June 2013 and 15th solo trip last Dec. 2011

How to Go to Boracay Island;
There are lot of ways going to Caticlan Port from Kalibo, Caticlan Airport and Batangas Pier. Last Dec. 2011, what I did was bus and ferry trip from Cubao to Caticlan passing through Batangas Pier and Occidental Mindoro. Now (Jul. 2016), what I did was a bus and ferry trip also via 2Go ferry directly to Caticlan Port skipping Occidental Mindoro.

Batangas Pier - Caticlan Port Sea Cruising via 2Go Ferry

5 Days Solo DIY Trip to Best White Sand Beaches near Panay Island

The main reason why I did this adventure was to experience the 2Go Ferry Ride going to Visayas archipelago. Fortunately, I availed a promo fare which was booked 3 weeks before the travel date, only PhP943.40 for a roundtrip on a Tourist Class (fully aircondition, free rice meal and free use of blanket/pillowcase). By the way, I don't have a credit card as the online booking required, I only used my BDO ATM Debit Card which has a MasterCard logo and the transaction processed successfully.

family diy trip from Roxas to Boracay 1st part: the adventure

2nd part of family budget trip in Visayas region, our entry and exit airports. I've decided on initial plan that this tour comprised of Antique-Roxas but after doing some research I found out that antique is very far. The nearest airport to check-in is Caticlan via Aklan. Since my family has not yet visited the famous white beach, why not skip the initial plan and proceed to a very much relaxing beachbumming.

Bus and Ferry Trip from Cubao (QC) to Caticlan (Aklan)

A Christmas weekend solo backpacking special December 23-26, 2011 Friday to Monday

Update as of March 2023;
For Ceres Bus, bus goes directly from Buendia station (Pasay City) to Caticlan that departs every 0600H daily, fare costs PHP 1,878. Book your tickets in advance via PHBUS website. The routes below (Cubao to Caticlan and Ferry via 2Go) is still active.

Since booking via airplane is very expensive even though advisable especially for a must holiday get-away that unfortunately dropped-off on weekend which made it more complicated, budget consideration is still a must. I have decided why not experience the land travel from bus in center of National Capital Region of Luzon all the way on ferry ride to Aklan province in Visayas. Travel time is indeed an expected suffering but the expense and adventure to be encountered is really amazing.
Route for a land trip coming from Cubao (NCR) to Caticlan (Aklan):
Cubao Terminal - Batangas Pier - Oriental Mindoro - Caticlan Port

1. bus from Cubao Terminal to Batangas Pier    - approx. 3 hours
2. ferry from Batangas Pier to Calapan Port       - approx. 3 hours
3. bus from Calapan Port to Roxas Port              - approx. 5 hours
4. ferry from Roxas Port to Caticlan Port            - approx. 5 hours
ESTIMATED TOTAL TRAVEL TIME: 16 hours

Solo Road Trip to Boracay Island

A Christmas weekend solo backpacking special
December 23-26, 2011 Friday to Monday

Due to enormous booking this peak season, I have to plan an alternative and still cheapest way going to Boracay Island. This will be my 1st time on visiting this place so though its gamble for everything (accommodations and transportation going back), I still have to use my adventurous and resourceful ability to make it happen successfully.

Why I chose land and ferry trip compared to simple booking a plane ticket ?
1. very expensive plane fare
2. road trip and ferry ride adventure
3. I have open time to spare
4. experience strolling from Luzon to Visayas on difffent types of transpo
5. off-budget for a flashpack
6. observe the Filipino travel cramming habits on Christmas day
