Continent: Grandeur of South America (all 12 Countries visited)

exploring the world's best tourist spots on a Filipino-style budget backpacking

To achieve greatness, one must first dream of it. - Simon Bolivar, "George Washington" of Latin America.

"Be Brave, Take Risks. Nothing can substitute Experience." - Paulo Coelho

My First Continent with Countries All Visited as a Budget DIY Pinoy Solo Backpacker - Philippine Passport Holder only.
The Quest to visit all 12 Countries of South America is now completed (2018-2024).
My journey to this Beautiful Continent is now signing off. Timog Amerika, pinapalaya na kita.
Muchos Gracias Sur America. #livealifeyouwillremember #southamerica
#brazil #argentina #uruguay #chile #colombia #bolivia #paraguay #peru #ecuador #guyana #suriname #venezuela #philippines #pinoy #travel #backpacker #pilipinas #spanish #latinamerica

Philippine passport holders need to APPLY BEFORE ARRIVAL:
Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, Ecuador, Venezuela

My Remarks based on my experience traveling to these awesome 12 countries;
I wanna go back - Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela. Chile
Enough of one-time visit - Guyana, Suriname, Paraguay, Uruguay
Hardest visa to apply - Ecuador, Venezuela, Chile
Easy public transport - mostly I think (Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Argentina)
Hardest public transport - Suriname, Guyana
Best food - All Spanish-speaking countries (I think they offer the same sets of menus, cheaper also)
Did I study their language before traveling - NO, just offline Google translate and I learned Spanish Numbers through Bingo game when I was young.
Scariest Experience - Venezuela Police checkpoint during 17-hour overnight bus trip due to language barrier, lost around $130 for robbery/bribery plus whole body frisking.
Memorable Adventure - traveled to most of these countries during the pandemic for 7 months (PCR tests, travel requirements, cross-border restriction, Philippine passport weakness, flight availability, lockdown, tourist landmark closure, limited public transport, etc).
Any Surprising Observation - Venezuela has better public transportation (Caracas has 7 lines of metro subway and 2 carousel bus lines) than the Philippines and other South American countries. The huge inflation reported by Mainstream Media is not even felt as most of the expenses I made (transportation, food, hotel, basic goods) are the same comparable to other South American countries. Yes, it's safe as a Solo Backpacker like traveling to other South American countries.
Other remarks - If flying from MNL, flights are very expensive and usually transit to US airports which requires a US visitor visa.

Interesting Facts about the Continent of South America;
1. There are 12 countries in South America. These are Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
2. The Andes Mountains is the longest mountain range in the world. It stretches for 4,400 miles along the west coast of South America, from Chile to Venezuela. It passes through Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.
3. The Amazon Forest is the largest natural rainforest forest in the world. At 2.7 million square miles, it covers 40% of South America. Its square area can fit about 40 USAs.
4. The Amazon River has the largest water volume of any river in the world. In fact, it has more water than the next seven largest rivers combined.
5. South America was named after the Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci.

Patagonia's Laguna delos Tres vs Torre del Paine Day-Hike Comparison

two of the best and most popular Argentine Patagonia's day-hike
Started the fun-hiking from my home country to moving beyond the neighbors in South-east Asia (Kinabalu) and North (Fuji), all the-way to Central Asia (Himalayas) and Africa (Kilimanjaro). Dream-hike is unstoppable all the way in South America's famous, the Patagonia trails. Patagonia hike is a challenge for a long hike rather than its summit elevation. I failed to accomplish hiking the Chilean Patagonia side due to underestimated / miscalculated bus schedule from Punta Arenas Airport to Puerto Natales Bus Station :'(

Laguna delos Tres (Argentina Patagonia) is the most desired and exciting trek that takes you to the foot of Mount Chaltén. This natural viewpoint is the closest site to the mythical walls of the Mount Fitz Roy and its surrounding granite peaks and without a doubt the most famous of all treks. Torres del Paine (Chile Patagonia) is a national park in the Extreme South region of Patagonian Chile. It is located in the southern tiers of the Andes and features mountains, lakes and glaciers. The Torres del Paine (Spanish for "Towers of Paine", "Paine" being the old indigenous name for the colour blue), three immense rock towers give the park its name.

It is formed from glacial melt water and is a popular site for hikers and climbers to see surroundings peaks, including the east face of Cerro Torre. 9 Days Ship Expedition in Summer Antarctica via Ushuaia

Seventh Continent on my Bucket List completing the #lakbaySevenContinents
November 22 to 30, 2019

“Antarctica is otherworldly, like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Stark, cold, beautiful desolation.” — Mark Hoppus

My 85th solo backpacking trip and the 7th continent that completed the Seven Continents of the World on my Bucket List. I did not research that much for this continent due also on limited time and laziness.

Antarctica is a land of extremes: it is the coldest and driest continent on Earth and has the highest average elevation. As the fifth largest continent in the world, Antarctica is also the most Southern, overlying the "South Pole". Scarcely touched by humans, the frozen land boasts breathtaking scenery, broken by only a handful of scientific bases and a "permanent" population of scientists numbering only a few thousand.

Glaciation is a period of long-term reduction in the temperature of the earth's surface and atmosphere, resulting in the expansion of continental and polar ice sheets and glaciers. After Antarctica, the Southern Andes lodge the largest area covered by ice in this hemisphere. Within this vast area, an ice field of 12,500 sq. km. shared by Argentina and Chile stands out. the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, starting point for many of the glaciers in the National Park. The Southern Patagonia Ice Field is the third largest ice field in our planet after Antarctica and Greenland.

11 Days Solo Backpacking in Summer Argentina

visiting the Buenos Aires, Iguazu, El Calafate, El Chalten and Ushuaia
November 15 to 22 and November 30 to December 02, 2019

My 84th solo backpacking trip2nd country to visit in South America continent105th country visited on my journey beyond #lakbay100 (Argentina) and of course and usual budget do-it-yourself itinerary from arrival to departure. I did not research that much for this country due also on limited time and laziness.

Argentina is the eighth-largest country in the world by area. The highest and the lowest points of South America are also located in Argentina: At 6,960m, Cerro Aconcagua is the tallest mountain in the Americas while Laguna del Carbón, at 105m below sea level, is the lowest point in the Americas. The name Argentina derives from argentinos, the Ancient Greek diminutive (tinos) form for silver (argentos), which is what early Spanish explorers sought when they first reached the region in the sixteenth century.
